BACK FROM NASHVILLE
03.18.05
The band is recently back from a trip to Nashville to check out the scene and play a
scheduled show at the Five Spot with the eclectic Johnny Dowd. Upon arriving in Nashville,
after a ten hour drive, we were presented with the opportunity to play at the popular tourist
attraction The Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Nashville. We made some new friends and had a
great time. We'll be heading back to "Music City" again soon.
Once back in Richmond, the band played an intimate acoustic set at Borders Books
& Music and felt welcomed home by our friends and some new fans. Thanks for making it out to the shows!

Stacy Koviak will kick off the evening with her melodic rock band. Mike Gales & The Warriorz will follow with their original
improvisational funk. Dean Fields brings his emotive acoustic stylings to the stage, followed by RLB closing the night out.
Please help us make this a successful night! 100% of the proceeds from the door goes to the Red Cross, and additional donations will be accepted.

FRIDAY CHEERS ROCKED
08.02.04
We want to thank everyone who came out to our Friday Cheers show this past weekend. The crowd was awesome. Your energy fueled us to keep going through the intense afternoon heat. By some stroke of luck it didn't rain on us! Our last two Brown's Island dates were canceled and wet, respectively, and given the ridiculous rain we've seen this year in Richmond, a dry Friday is really something to celebrate.
If you missed the show, it marked our first major performance with bassist Scott Harris, who has been with us for about a month, and who -- coincidentally -- shares a first name with our last bassist. Scott lays down a fat groove with his vintage gear. Thanks, fans, for making the new guy feel welcome.
As if the intensity of Harris wasn't enough, Adrian Duke joined us on stage for half the set. Adrian played keys on Something Human, and lent his magic touch to those songs on stage. If you missed it, you may kick yourself now. I must say, it was just a great show. So much energy. Had we not run out of time and fluids, we could have gone all night just wallowing in the crowd's enthusiasm. Look for pictures from the show to be posted soon!

SCOTT VARNEY'S LAST SHOW
03.23.04
Join us in bidding farewell to Scott this Saturday at Main Street Beer Co.
After several valiant efforts to make both projects work, Scott will be leaving RLB to
focus on his solo project. Scott's
performance with RLB will live on forever, though, on our soon-to-be-released CD,
Something Human.
Scott's connections opened the door to many new venues for us, especially in the tidewater area. He's a skilled
and tasteful bass player, whose talent and personality will be impossible to replace. Best of luck, Scott. We'll miss you.

CELEBRITY FOR A DAY
03.01.04
Rachel here, and I simply want to say "thank you" to everyone who supported me when
the article came out last week! I had tremendous response from friends and it is
greatly appreciated! I also have to extend a BIG thank you to Cynthia McMullen and
Alexa Welch Edlund for working on the cover story and raising my self-esteem.
Besides the sweaty palms and nervous speech the interview was definitely an experience;
one that I'll never forget. It was an honor to be chosen for the article and an amazing
domino effect of press it created! Thanks to Antoinette Essa of NBC Channel 12 and
Hilary Langford who plugged the Canal Club show and added to RLB's recognition as they
showed a live clip from our sound check on the 5:30 news.
Once again, thank you for your incessant support! Much love.

STUDIO UPDATE 10.08.03
Hi friends. John here. The studio project is coming along great! I'm having trouble
containing my enthusiasm even as I write this. Recording is a painstaking process,
but the results are well worth the effort. At this point the drums and bass are long
since finished, and we're actively chipping away at the guitar and vocal tracks.
That means Rachel is working extra hard these days. She continues to impress us with her
chops and voice... [more here]

SCOTT VARNEY ON RICHMOND.COM 09.09.03
Scott's solo work receives a very complimentary review this week in Richmond.com's Sound Off.
"Think a more minimal Agents of Good Roots with moments of Victor Wooten, Ani DiFranco, and Bobby McFerrin."
How cool is that? Visit scottvarney.com to find out where you can catch the live show.

STUDIO PROJECT LAUNCHED 07.18.03
Pre-production is underway for the first full-length record from RLB. The band is very excited to get back in the studio. They have been working on arrangements and production ideas for around 16 songs. This project is somewhat of a continuation of RLB's last studio venture, the Page 102/Walk Away single of early 2002, the original idea being to record a few songs at a time and to release the resulting CD when enough songs were compiled. Several roadblocks delayed the project up to this point, and the band freely admits that the few-songs-at-a-time idea does not work.
Knowing that Scott would be leaving the band soon, Rachel and John decided to not delay the recording project any further. Recording will begin next week, but there will be one major difference from the last project. Instead of completing only a few songs, the band will start by recording the basic tracks for all of the songs. From there they have many options to reach a finished project, but the heavy groundwork will already be done.
RLB is prioritizing the completion of three songs in particular, to release as a single to fans and radio. ItÂs You and Drive will be two of the three. Join the mailing list to receive progress reports and samples of the latest songs. As always, RLB thanks you profusely for your support.
|
GUITAR AUDITIONS 06.27.03
RLB is auditioning guitarists. Please help us spread the word! In the
meantime we are still booking and playing. Contact
Rachel[at]rlband.com for more info.

THANKS, BRETT 06.24.03
Special thanks go out to Brett Zwerdling for stepping in to help RLB for a very last
minute gig. Scott had to leave town for a family emergency, and our keyboard-playing
friend Brett valiantly dared to learn enough material  in only two days - to provide
seamless coverage.
Brett appeared on stage at the got milk? battle with seemingly dozens of fans in tow.
"What did it sound like," you ask? Really cool, in fact. Brett covered Scott's bass
line on certain songs (It's You, Bloom) adding some occasional
embellishment on organ. For other tunes he played a piano part (Something
Human, Running Late), creating an entirely new sound for RLB, while
impressing and captivating the lactose-engorged crowd.
The band's best efforts, however, could not offset the tremendous support for the other
competitor. RLB offers congratulations to Juma, who won the contest based on audience votes.
|
GOT MILK? BATTLE 06.17.03
Your vote counts this Saturday, June 21, at Virginia Center Commons Mall. Come support RLB as they battle against the
band Juma in the "Shake Stuff Up Tour" sponsored by got milk? The crowd will determined the winner, so please show up
and aggressively display your allegiance! The winning band receives a small cash prize and is entered into a national
contest with the other winners from the 100-city tour.

FRIDAY CHEERS 04.18.03
RLB will open for pop/folk greats Eddie from Ohio at Friday
Cheers this summer! The schedule for the renowned concert series was announced this week. We're very excited to be part of this hugely popular summer event.
Mark your calendars for August 1. Friday Cheers events are held on Brown's Island in Richmond, and admission is free.

NEW PICTS 03.28.03
Check out a few great photos from our recent Canal Club date. Thanks
to Mike from Travis Allison Band for the shots! They were even cool enough to use in the new FLASH intro on this page.
|
WELCOME SCOTT! 01.15.03
Welcome RLB's new bass player Scott Varney! Scott has extensive experience with his instrument.
Most recently he has been performing as a solo bassist/vocalist. We will be putting his skills
in both areas to work for RLB. Look for a bio and photos soon! The new trio is rehearsing hard
to (literally) get its act together. During Scott's audition he proved to be a hard worker and
a quick learner, so we're giving him a couple days to learn our 30+ songs. Good luck, Scott!
We promise some new dates very soon.
And we're still looking for that fourth member on guitar or keys, so spread the word!
|
DALE DEPARTS 11.06.02
RLB sadly announces the departure of founding bass player, Dale Curran.
Dale recently earned a job promotion that would make it difficult to maintain
a full commitment to RLB. The band and the music will sorely miss Dale's style
and his passion for playing. Please join us this Saturday, November 9, at the
Rivah Band Jam at Godwin High School as the original trio plays its final
scheduled performance. The show is free, but reservations are required.
We hope to see you there! We offer Dale congratulations
and the best of luck with his new job.
|
AUDITIONS 11.06.02
In a related story, RLB announces it will begin auditioning musicians. Please
help us spread the word so we can find the best possible match. RLB is focusing
primarily on finding a bass player, but also encourages keyboardists and guitarists
to audition. RLB plans to re-form as a quartet, with the fourth member playing keys,
guitar, or ideally both. The musicians should have a professional attitude and be
able to make a serious time commitment to the band. Experience and background vocals
are a big plus.
|
FALL DATES 10.08.02
We are excited to announce some new fall dates that are fast approaching, with good
opportunities to see RLB for free. (Our favorite price!) The band has been taking it
somewhat easy lately, but we're back working on new material and other exciting creative
endeavors that we really can't say much about just yet. But stay in touch, and come out
to see us! The dates page has all the information.
|
BIG GIG SHOW ADDED 07.12.02
RLB has just been added to the Downtown Presents Big Gig schedule! We will be playing
Wednesday, July 17, Lunchtime Live outdoors at the James Center downtown. This is a
great opportunity for us. We hope to see you there!

The show in Raleigh this past Friday went great. We made some friends and had a blast playing to a very receptive audience at
The Brewery, with The Nickel Slots and Rob Watson. Thanks so much for having us! The venue is very cool. It has hosted everyone
from The Cranberries to Korn. The staff was friendly and professional, and the sound was excellent! We hope to get back
there soon!
|
RALEIGH DATE 05.09.02
"HELLO RALEIGH!" will be the greeting on Friday, May 31, as RLB takes its show on the road to The Brewery in Raleigh, North
Carolina. It will be our pleasure to open for The Nickel Slots, who
are hosting a CD Release Party that night at the reknowned venue. Help us spread the word to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill
area!
|

SONG SAMPLES 04.09.02
We had a terrific weekend opening for Mary Prankster Friday night at our favorite spot, the Canal Club,
and then rocking Baltimore at UMBC on Saturday. Mary drew a very receptive and supportive crowd. Thanks
to all the fans (new and old) for talking to us after the show, and for picking up the new single. Your
support means a lot to us.
Speaking of the new single -- we just loaded samples of the songs to our music page. The samples replace
the rough mix samples that were there previously. Take a listen! We know you'll like it.
|
REVIEW OF THE PATH 04.01.02
GoGirlsMusic.com just published a very positive review of RLB's debut EP, The Path.
The writer, Deborah Keith, says the EP "...leaves the listener seeking more from this up and coming band."

NEW CD FOR FREE! 03.28.02
We are very excited to be releasing a new CD single featuring Page 102 and Walk Away.
These songs will eventually be part of a full length CD. We are very pleased with how the new material
is turning out. The sound, textures, and quality are excellent! We hope you agree.
The CD will be available for $2 at our shows starting March 29 at Barnes & Noble. Or buy both
The Path EP and the new single for only $5. How can you beat that?
Want a free copy? Members of our mailing list who come to the Canal Club show on April 5 can get the
new single for free! Stop by the RLB merch table (while supplies last).
The new songs will be sent to local radio stations very soon, so stay tuned and we'll let you know
how you can request RLB on XL102, Y101, and B103! Thanks for your support.
|
KEEPING BUSY 02.25.02
RLB has been keeping busy lately. We played an acoustic show this past Friday to a very receptive
audience at Barnes & Noble in Brandermill. We are working on final details for the release of our
new single featuring Page 102 and Walk Away. This Friday, March 1, we'll be playing
two shows at Arthur's restaurant, starting at 9:00 and 11:00.
|
CHANGE OF VENUE 02.01.02
Tonight's show at The Bottom Line in Richmond has been canceled. Instead, we will be playing in
Alexandria, VA, at Zig's, opening for Ki Theory. This great opportunity fell into our lap just
last night. We apologize for the last minute change, but we are looking forward to rocking
northern Virginia tonight!
|
CANCELED SHOW 12.17.01
We are sorry to announce that our show scheduled for December 22 at the Canal Club in Richmond has
been canceled. Hundreds of concertgoers were evacuated from the two-story nightclub just after
8:00 last night when cracks were noticed in several floor joists. The Canal Club is
temporarily closed. RLB wishes a speedy recovery to one of its favorite venues.
|
NEW MUSIC SAMPLES 12.11.01
The band spent this past weekend in Montana Studio recording some tracks for what will eventually be a full-length CD.
Samples of the rough mix of those songs are available now - FREE - for you to download only from our music page!
What is a "rough mix," you ask? A rough mix of a song is like a rough draft of a paper. It hints at the potential of the final
product, but it does not have all the polish of the final version. While these tracks still sound really good, they have not
been through the painstaking process of the final mix. We thought you would like to follow the progress of the project. Consider
this the first installment. Enjoy.
|
NEW YEAR'S EVE SHOW 12.06.01
A New Year's Eve Celebration at Mulligan's in the fan has just been announced! The show starts that
Monday at 10:00 pm. A $5 cover at the door includes party favors and a champagne toast at midnight.
Don't miss this opportunity to see RLB rock 2001 to a close. Further info is on our dates page.
|
UNSUNG HERO REVIEW 11.13.01
RLB was interviewed last month at TT Reynolds in Fairfax. The review of that show is in this month's
Unsung Hero magazine. Read author Jason Howell's kind words about the band in
the review, and see our newly designed press page for other articles and reviews.
|
NEW: LYRICS PAGE 10.25.01
In response to frequent requests for lyrics to RLB songs, we've added a
LYRICS page. The sing-along text for Blink,
It's You and Carpe Diem accompanies the 5 songs (from The Path EP)
previously available on the MUSIC page. More lyrics to come, so check back often!
|
TOP 5 BANDS 10.11.01
RLB has the distinct honor of being named one of the "five local acts that you should
listen to" by the Richmond Times Dispatch. In the cover story of today's
Weekend section, RLB is listed along with Susan Greenbaum and three Richmond-based
national acts, Fighting Gravity, Pat McGee Band, and The Waking Hours as bands "that A)
create good, solid, listenable music and B) possess enough ambition to actually work on
their careers..." As the obvious new comer on the list, we are truly flattered to share
the title with bands that have been celebrities for even longer than we've been playing.
Visit our new press page for this article and other RLB media coverage!
|
DC-AREA PREMIERE 10.08.01
The band is just back from its Washington-area debut performance at TT Reynolds in
Fairfax, VA. Juniper Lane
was nice enough to share their stage with us, and rocked the place with a solid mix of
covers and originals. RLB's set featured yet another new original tune. The crowd
response was tremendous, and we're confident that this is the beginning of a fine
relationship with fans, bands, and clubs in the DC-area. We can't wait to get
back there soon!
|
RLB HITS THE ROAD 09.20.01
After an exciting summer which included performances at Brown's Island,
the Carytown Watermelon Festival, and the Canal Club's Back to School
Bash, the Rachel Leyco Band is going on the road to our nation's capital for
the first time. We will be playing at TT Reynolds on October 5th, and sharing the
stage with Juniper Lane. Check the dates
page for more information.
|
RLB TURNS ONE 08.03.01
The band is celebrating its one year anniversary this month! Twelve months and
over fifty shows later, we're starting to get the hang of this thing. This month
is definitely your chance to see us in the Richmond area. We'll be at all the best
local venues this month, so check our dates and we'll see you at the show!
|
ROUND TWO 07.08.01
The gods of music were smiling down on Innsbrook Pavilion this past Friday night.
Unfortunately for us, the gods of '80's heavy metal were the most powerful. RLB
cranked out 45 minutes of its best to an extremely receptive audience, under the
most magnificent summer sky of the year. We did not win the battle, but we gained
fans, friends, and valuable contacts with many wonderful people. The kind words
and passionate support we received were overwhelming. As always, you deserve our
deepest thanks for giving us the chance to do what we love to do.
And Innsbrook -- what a great venue! We hope to get back there soon.
|
RLB WINS AT INNSBROOK 06.30.01
RLB won round one of the Innsbrook AfterHours Almost Famous Band
Night! With fierce competition from Sataday Sessions, Bullistic,
and Rock Iron Puppets, the judges reported that this battle was the closest
yet. It was an extraordinary night of music, capped off by an announcement that
delivered relief and joy to our band and our fans. A sincere thank you to all the folks
at Innsbrook, the judges, the other bands, and especially to our friends who showed
up to cheer us on! Check out some photos from the show.
Be sure to catch ROUND TWO! (the final round) of
the competition, where we'll be playing with Seth and HalfBrother Sid.
Friday, July 6, at 6:00. The winner will go on to open for a national act later this summer.
|
NEW LIVE MP3s 06.28.01
Hear new RLB music on MP3.com! New LIVE tracks have just been added,
including Blink and Carpe Diem. These seven songs are (as of
yet) not available in any other recorded format. They offer a taste
of the energy and excitement of the band's electric show. Enjoy them
responsibly, and tell your friends!
|
CALLING ALL FANS 06.25.01
RLB needs your support! We'll be playing a band competition Friday, June
29, at Innsbrook Pavilion, and massive amounts of cheering and applause
will only help us. Music starts at 6:30 -- we'll see you
then!
|
WHEN IT RAINS 06.18.01
As you have probably heard by now, Innsbrook AfterHours was rained out
on Friday. Our show has been postponed until June 29. We hope
that means more of you can attend, and that maybe the weather will
cooperate this time!
The Alley Katz show (06.13) went great. RLB shared the stage with Mudcat
Jones, Rebecca, and a very interesting band from San Fran called
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, which travels across the country in a converted
1974 city transit bus. The music rocked, and the Alley Katz crowd was
excellent. We must have been playing well, because by the time we left
the stage we were booked for the Capital City Band Fest on Brown's Island
on August 18 -- a rather satisfying end to a show.
|
A WEEK IN THE LIFE... 06.08.01
The next seven days will include much excitement for the Rachel Leyco Band.
We will be celebrating Dale's birthday (June 9), Rachel's high school graduation
(June 14), and performing no fewer than three shows! We'll see many of you at
Coffee Spot on Saturday for an acoustic performance.
Be sure to come out to Alley Katz on Wednesday, where RLB will be opening for
Rebecca Lord. So stick around and listen to her smooth rockin' tunes.
And Friday. Well, Friday is going to be one killer show. That is a guarantee.
We'll be kicking it at Innsbrook AfterHours, in an event they're calling
"Almost Famous Band Night." RLB will be competing against three other bands to
advance to the second round. The winner of the second round will open for a
national act later this summer. Please join us as we crank it up
and rock out at Innsbrook! See our dates page for more
information on all shows. We'll see you soon!

BROWN'S ISLAND 05.21.01
The River City Beer & Seafood Festival was a big success for RLB. At 1:30 PM we tore
into an hour-long set to a very receptive and energetic crowd. It was our first time
playing on Brown's Island, and -- by all accounts -- one of our best shows ever.

AIR PLAY 04.25.01
We're happy to hear that several radio stations in Richmond have been playing songs from
The Path. Rock station XL102 (WRXL FM102.1) debuted the title track Sunday, April
22, on Studio B, a local music show. Campus radio stations at the University of Richmond
(WDCE FM90.1) and Virginia
Commonwealth University (WVCW AM640) have been regularly airing several tracks.
Help RLB get added to normal rotation! Email Jay Smack at XL102 to request The Path.
The more they know you want to hear it, the better our chances! Thanks for your help.

LIVE TV 04.22.01
RLB made its live television debut Friday morning, April 20, 2001. The band appreared on
WRIC TV8's Good Morning Richmond, playing parts of several acoustic songs.
At 5:00 AM the band arrived at the studio. By 7:00 they had played into four commercial
breaks with parts of Soft-spoken Cries, Blink, Carpe Diem,
and just about all of Stay. The folks at the ABC affiliate were a pleasure to
work with. Thanks to John Reid and everyone at TV8 for the great opportunity.

MUSIC & T-SHIRTS 03.12.01
Last night's Alley Katz show was huge! It was all that we predicted and more.
Well over one hundred people showed up. On a Sunday. We were rather pleased.
Our friends in FatBlue opened up with a roaring 45-minute set. RLB unleashed
its pent-up energy in an hour-long set and a four song encore which featured
a new acoustic tune, Soft-spoken Cries. We have April and May dates already scheduled for Alley
Katz, so we'll see you there.
And remember those t-shirts we've been talking up for a couple weeks? Well,
the first batch sold out at the end of the show. If you didn't get yours, fear not!
There are more on the way. Thanks to everyone who bought them. Look for more designs
in the coming months.

GAINING STRENGTH 02.20.01
Everything seems to be going great for RLB as of late! The Path
continues to sell well at shows. David is finding quite a bit of luck
booking out-of-town gigs, like Roanoke, Virginia Beach, and Charlottesville.
Rachel is continuously writing new songs that find their way onto the
setlist, including It's You, a very up-beat tune with a chorus that
will remain in your head for the rest of the day.
Recent shows have been well received and very tight. Our support at such
performances is growing, and we have all of you to thank for that. We are
gearing up and getting very psyched for the Alley Katz show on
March 11. It's gonna be huge!
For Message Board users, we had to transfer all the old postings to a
new site because the old host is shutting down. We actually like the new
board better, and hope you do too.

ALLEY KATZ: ROCKED. 01.08.01
What a great weekend for RLB! They rocked the city with two shows.
Saturday at Chopstix would have been enough, but toss in a roaring
performance Sunday at Alley Katz and you know the weekend was a
success. They had the pleasure of working with Murfreesboro, Armwood,
and The Ernies.
The band was thrilled to see the many friends and fans who came out
to show support. Hey, if you're kicking yourself because you missed
the shows this weekend, STOP and make plans to
see us soon!

TIMES-DISPATCH ARTICLE 12.22.00 Pick up a copy of the Friday,
December 22, Richmond Times Dispatch and throw away everything but the InSync section.
That's RLB on the cover, and highlighted with another picture and an
interview with Rachel on page D10.

It is available for purchase today. See our music page for more information!
|
CD SENT OFF! 12.04.00
The band has sent their debut CD The Path off to be manufactured.
They're still hoping for a pre-Christmas release date. Definitely look for it at shows in January. If you're on the mailing
list we'll let you know as soon as it's available.
|
RECORDING SESSION 11.21.00
RLB spent the weekend of Nov 18-19 in the studio.
Between jokes and game-playing they were actually able to get some work done, and the results are excellent! The as-yet-untitled
5-song CD (call it an EP if you'd like) should be available before the end of the year. It will include "The Path" and "Promises."

RLB ROCKS CANAL CLUB AT SURPRISE GIG 11.03.00
Around 9 o'clock on Friday, November 3, RLB showed up at the Canal Club to open for the
Travis Allison Band. Not
even an hour earlier they had been in the middle of a typical rehearsal, not knowing if this
unannounced performance would happen. Shortly after 8 o'clock a call came in requesting the band's
presence at the club to open for local favorite Travis Allison Band.
RLB packed up its gear, sped off to the Shockoe Bottom venue, and erupted into a mind-blowing
set around 10:30. The energy was amazing, from both the band and the crowd. The band left the
stage amid pleas of "Encore!" and "Just one more!" But, then again, isn't that the only way to
leave a stage?

CANAL CLUB GIG
We had a great time at the Canal Club show! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us...
We seem to have pulled off one helluva concert, and we were able to make great friends with the Susan Greenbaum Band,
Cobblestones, Jackie Martino and 59H2O. All the bands were exceptionally nice and generous.
I especially felt honored to share the stage with Susan Greenbaum, a local musician whom I admire.
We look forward to playing with these acts in the future. David is currently busy booking shows for the fall.
Thanks for the support,
Rachel
